What we are

An independent, non-commercial directory

ADHD Scot is a free, independent information resource for people in Scotland navigating ADHD and autism assessment. The provider directory lists private assessment services so that people can make informed comparisons.

We do not rank, recommend, or take payment from any provider. Listings are presented neutrally: we show what each service offers and let people decide what's right for them.

What we show
  • Assessment types offered and costs
  • Clinician names, roles, and regulators
  • HIS registration status
  • Prescribing, titration, shared care support
  • Wait times and waiting list status
  • Location, delivery method, accessibility
What we don't do
  • Charge for listings
  • Rank or recommend any provider
  • Accept advertising or paid placement
  • Share user data with providers
Eligibility

Who can be listed

Scottish-based services

Services with at least one in-person location in Scotland, or online-only services that accept Scottish clients.

ADHD or autism assessments

Services offering private diagnostic assessment for ADHD, autism, or combined ADHD/autism, for adults, children, or both.

Regulated clinicians

Assessment led by clinicians registered with a recognised regulator: GMC, NMC, HCPC, or equivalent. We show regulator information on every listing.

We reserve the right to decline or remove listings that we cannot verify or that do not meet these criteria. Listings are not an endorsement.

What to prepare

Information we'll ask for

The more detail you provide, the more useful your listing. Fields marked required must be completed to be listed.

Service details

  • Required Service / clinic name The name as it should appear in the directory, e.g. "Clarity Neurodevelopmental Clinic", "Dr Morag Henderson, Consultant Psychiatrist", or "Brightpath Assessment Network".
  • Required Website URL Your main website where people can read about your service and make enquiries.
  • Required Email address The email address patients should use for general enquiries. This is shown publicly on your listing.
  • Phone number Optional, but shown on your listing if provided. Include the area code.
  • Required Provider type Choose the most accurate description: Independent Clinic (a registered clinic with premises), Independent Medical Agency / IMA (a network of clinicians delivering services under one organisation), or Individual Practitioner (a single clinician operating independently).
  • HIS registration status Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) is the independent regulator of private healthcare in Scotland. We show whether your service is registered, has an application in progress, or is not yet registered. HIS registration involves inspection and is a significant quality marker for people choosing a service.
  • Payment options e.g. self-pay (bank transfer, card), insurance accepted, interest-free instalment plans. This helps people understand affordability before they enquire.
  • Waiting list status Simply: are you currently accepting new referrals? Open means yes. Closed means the waiting list is currently paused. Please update us when this changes. It's one of the most important things people check.

Location & delivery

  • Required Delivery method Whether you offer assessments online (video call), in-person at a clinic, or both. Online-only services are included provided they accept clients based in Scotland.
  • In-person location(s) The city or town where your clinic is based, e.g. "Edinburgh" or "Glasgow & Dundee". Used in search filtering and displayed on the map.
  • Full address Your clinic's full postal address, used to place a pin on the Scotland map. Not shown as a standalone field, only used for the map.
  • Accessibility provisions Any specific provisions for people with sensory or communication needs, e.g. longer appointments available, written communication preferred over phone calls, BSL interpretation available, step-free access. This helps neurodivergent people find a service that will work for them.

Assessments offered & costs

  • Required Assessment types offered Confirm Yes or No for each category you offer: Adult ADHD · Child ADHD · Adult autism · Child autism · Adult combined ADHD/autism · Child combined ADHD/autism. We list these separately because many providers offer only some of these, and it's a primary filter people use.
  • Cost per assessment type (£) The total cost of a full diagnostic assessment for each type you offer, not a deposit or initial consultation fee. If pricing varies (e.g. depending on complexity), provide the typical or starting price. Costs are one of the most-searched fields on the directory.
  • Follow-up appointment cost The cost of a post-diagnosis feedback or results appointment, if charged separately from the assessment.
  • Private prescription fee If you prescribe, what do you charge per private prescription? Controlled drug (CD) and non-controlled drug (NCD) fees are often different, so please specify both if applicable.
  • Typical wait time (weeks) The approximate number of weeks from enquiry to assessment appointment, for ADHD and autism separately. Give your honest current typical figure, not a best-case or worst-case. This is the most-filtered field in the directory and out-of-date information is harmful.
  • Report turnaround time How long after the assessment appointment it typically takes to receive the written diagnostic report, e.g. "2–4 weeks".

Post-diagnosis support

  • Prescribing available Can your clinicians write private prescriptions for ADHD medication following diagnosis? This is separate from titration: prescribing means issuing a prescription; titration means actively managing dose adjustments over time.
  • Medication titration & ongoing prescribing Do you support patients through the titration process (adjusting medication type and dose until a stable, effective regime is found) and continue prescribing beyond the initial prescription? This is an important distinction for people who cannot access shared care with their GP.
  • Shared care support Shared care is an arrangement where a private prescriber initiates ADHD medication and the patient's NHS GP then takes over prescribing on an ongoing basis, saving the patient the cost of ongoing private prescriptions. Do you actively support patients in establishing shared care with their GP, including providing the necessary documentation?
  • GP notification letter Following diagnosis, do you send a formal letter to the patient's GP informing them of the diagnosis and any recommendations? This is important because a GP letter supports referrals to NHS services, workplace accommodations, and future care planning.
  • Validated tools & collateral history A high-quality ADHD or autism assessment uses standardised, evidence-based rating scales (e.g. Conners, DIVA, ADOS-2, ADI-R) rather than informal clinical interview alone, and gathers collateral information, typically from a parent, partner, or teacher who knows the person well. This corroborates the patient's self-report and is considered best practice. Answer Yes if your assessment routinely includes both validated diagnostic tools and collateral history; No if it relies primarily on self-report or clinical interview without standardised instruments.

Clinician information

  • Required Lead clinician name(s) and role(s) The name and professional title of the clinician(s) who lead assessments, e.g. "Dr Jane Smith, Consultant Psychiatrist" or "Dr Aisha Patel, Clinical Psychologist". People have a right to know who will be assessing them before they book.
  • Required Lead clinician professional regulator The regulatory body your lead clinician is registered with: GMC (General Medical Council, doctors and psychiatrists), NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council, nurse prescribers), HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council, psychologists and OTs), or BPS (British Psychological Society). We display this on every listing so people can independently verify registration.
  • Full clinical team A brief description of everyone involved in your assessments, e.g. "Assessments are carried out by clinical psychologists and reviewed by a consultant psychiatrist." This helps people understand who they will meet during the process.
  • Psychiatrist-led Is the assessment led by a consultant psychiatrist or associate specialist in psychiatry (a medical doctor with specialist training in mental health)? Some people or their GPs specifically request a psychiatrist-led assessment, particularly for complex presentations or shared care arrangements.
  • Late-diagnosed / AFAB experience Does your service have specific experience with adults who were not diagnosed in childhood, or with people assigned female at birth (AFAB), who are often underdiagnosed due to masking and presentation differences? This is self-declared. We do not verify it, but it helps people who have had previous assessments dismissed or who present atypically find services experienced with their situation.
